末広がり/ for the bright future (Suehirogari)

　　　写真の模様は末広がりと家の窯では呼んでおり、我が窯の

 

 

代表的な模様の中のひとつです。

 

 

母の話によると、浜田庄司先生が家の先代の

 

 

須藤武雄に「何か縁起のあるものを、考えたほうが良い」との、

 

 

アドバイスを受けて、数字の８を連ねる模様を考えたようです。

 

 

漢字の八は、正に字の如く　すえひろがり　に

 

 

どんどん　希望に満ち溢れた未来に向かって　広がっています。

 

 

しゃれがきいてて、私はこの模様が大好きです。

 

 

As you can see this picture, this cup has a pattern.

 

 

This pattern was created by my grandfather SUDO TAKEO.

 

 

He got an advice from Hamada Shoji.

 

 

Hamada sensei told my grandfather to make patterns which was related to good luck.

 

 

This pattern is a series of number 8. 888888 Can you see this??

 

 

The point is Japanese number 8 is 「八」. This figure shows becoming wider and wider.

 

 

Therefore, it means our life open to the bright future and full of good luck!

 

 

We Japanese like playing with word and this custom from Edo period.

 

 

Edo style was very sophisticated and very modern.
