英語の響き/ English sounds

    お茶のお稽古をアメリカでも再開しました。

 

 

以前から気にはなっていたのですが、

 

 

英語で陶器を表現すると

 

 

どうしても味気ないものになってしまいます

 

 

どんなに美しい抹茶碗でも

 

 

’ボウル’ と表現します

 

 

日本ではボウルは料理のときに

 

 

使う銀色のアレを思い浮かべてしまうので余計ですね

 

 

お茶の社中のアメリカ人の方が

 

 

お茶の道具を全て

 

 

日本語でよんでいて、彼自身も

 

 

英語だとしっくりこないと言ってました。

 

 

言語によって　同じ表現をしても

 

 

こんなにも違うものなのだなあ　と

 

 

興味深いものです。

 

 

 

I restart taking tea ceremony lesson at USA.

 

 

I had a very good time at my 2nd lesson

 

 

because I met 2 American students there

 

 

and they call all tea ceremony equipments in Japanese.

 

 

Actually, I thought when I name the pottery in English,

 

 

it becomes something less WABI, SABI.

 

 

It might be same reason,

 

 

they said that they prefer use Japanese.

 

 

Even if the pottery is a masterpiece,

 

 

once it is called 'a bowl',

 

 

I feel very weird.

 

 

I think it is very interesting

 

 

because we use same word under the almost same definition,

 

 

the difference is just other languages.
