絵付け/　Painting

　　　When I was in Japan, I sometimes helped my family to make potteries. 

 

 

I always helped the part of the painting.

 

 

The painting is one of the most important parts of making pottery.

 

 

As you know well, the beautiful shape and the beautiful glaze and the beautiful painting create masterpieces.

 

 

Also, it was sooooo challenging work for me.

 

 

it looks very simple, but once I started drawing, I realized how hard it was.

 

 

 

I remembered that my grandmother had told me

 

 

that my grandfather had always practiced drawing, whenever he had a time. 

 

 

Day and night 

 

 

He kept on drawing on the newspaper with brush,

 

 

until his arms learned how to draw.

 

 

 

I might not be able to be like my grandfather....

 

 

日本に居た頃　焼物を作る手伝いをしていた

 

 

 

私は主に絵付けをしていたのだけれど

 

 

これが本当に難しい

 

 

皆さんもご存知のように　傑作は

 

 

美しい形、釉薬、絵付けで決まると思う

 

 

シンプルなほど　よけいに難しい

 

 

 

 

そして祖母が以前言っていた事を思い出した

 

 

祖父が現役のころ

 

 

寝てもさめても絵付けの練習をしていた

 

 

筆で新聞に何回も何回も

 

 

腕が身体をそれを覚えるまで

 

 

 

私は到底　祖父のようにはなれないなあと　思う
